Education/Training
To become a policy and planning manager, you usually have to study at university with a major in an area relevant to the policy field you wish to work in. Useful degrees include commerce, economics, law, Indigenous studies, international studies or political science. Degrees in these areas are available in most universities in Queensland.
To get into these courses, you will usually need to pass Year 12 with English and maths. Different universities have different subjects and cut-off scores, and some have flexible entry requirements, so contact the universities you are interested in for more information.

Employment Opportunities
Policy and planning managers are employed by Commonwealth and state/territory government departments and organizations as well as trade unions, political parties, universities, non-profit organizations and private sector organizations which provide consultancy services to government or lobby government on policy issues.
Job prospects are good although there are limited opportunities to work in regional areas.
