Detailed Information

Credit Transfer Policy

La Trobe University does not expect students to repeat studies already completed elsewhere to an acceptable standard and at a comparable level. If a student has completed a TAFE Diploma, they are likely to be eligible for significant credit in a related course at La Trobe. The University has articulation agreements with numerous Institutes of TAFE and other post-secondary providers in Victoria and interstate. Applicants who have studied at tertiary level elsewhere, or who have other relevant studies or work experience, may be also eligible for credit towards a La Trobe degree. Each faculty has different policies regarding the number and type of subjects and any work experience it accepts for credit purposes. Students should apply for credit when they enrol. For more information, check individual faculty webpages.

Tertiary Entry Policy

The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), including Units 3 and 4 in English (any) completed in one year; the International Baccalaureate; other Australian Year 12 certificates; many overseas qualifications; 50 per cent of a full-time annual load at an Australian university; or one year full-time (or part-time equivalent) of post-Year 12 TAFE study. Any qualification recognised by VTAC as equivalent to the VCE or awarded a statement of equivalency from the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) meets Normal Entry requirements. There are Special Entry criteria relating to age and educational background (Non-Year 12); Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders; disadvantaged groups; and English language proficiency requirements. In addition to meeting the University's Normal Entry or Special Entry requirements, applicants must satisfy any extra requirements of their chosen course.
